on nanaimo.

This post I'll dedicate towards my besties. After all, what are blogs without an audience? And I appreciate my faithful audience for enduring through my odd posts.

Nanaimo! ....is far. Or at least far enough to make the transit feel like forever. And the island itself is quaint. Perhaps things are a matter of taste, a matter of perspective. It's a town that feels like you might be able to run into everyone again, and you might learn the names of shop owners and the people in the city.

After being a city girl for so many years, even the suburban parts of it, I find it an odd sort of disquieting to be walking along downtown on a Sunday, and being able to count the handful of people littering the streets.
I don't deny it's beautiful, and it feels a little like a vacation just to be in that sort of atmosphere. Where people bike along the sides of the road, and the same people ride the buses everyday.

I miss my brother. No matter how exciting it is to visit his place, to go on a vacation, an adventure to another city to see him, I can`t get rid of the tugging feeling to bring him home. It`s odd to think of him far away in another city, where I have no idea what is going on. What will he do without me to be there to adore him?

In terms of whole 30...still happening! Only a week and a half left to go. I did find myself surprisingly alert and awake early in the morning ( at seven!) So something must be paying off. :) Loving those jackfruit chips!

on greenness.

Today I found myself drinking a green smoothie. Green. Now...I have always thought that smoothies should be pink, or red, or yellow, or even purple! But green...unless it's kiwi in there, that shouldn't happen.
But, surprisingly, once I managed to get past the odd coloring, the idea that little bits of raw vegetable were just hanging around in my smoothie, it was..not bad!
I would even venture to say it tasted good.

I have always proclaimed to hold too high a regard for all foods to ever be able to cut them out of my life. And it's true that it's unlikely I would ever be able to revert to an entirely wholesome form of eating, or even a paleo lifestyle.

But I'm also coming to realize I'm enjoying this food challenge. It feels good to be eating healthy. It feels good not to have junk food settle at the bottom of your stomach. It feels good not to count my calories, to eat when I feel like it, and not feel guilty about it.

It's too early to say how this will all end up. But my review of the first week...this went more smoothly than I thought it would. Aside from brief lapses in sanity where I was ready to sell my life for a piece of white bread, I might even consider this to be kind of fun.

Day 1!

So...Day 1 of this Paleo...diet..thing.
Given N.'s previous statements about the word diet, I'm hesistant to use it, just in case anyone has the crazy idea that I'm trying to count my calories.
No.
But with Cb's recent suggestions, and her raving reviews of this "food program", we're giving it a go.

Goodbye to my darling companions of delicious baked pastries, ice cream, and dessert after dinner. And my mountains of yogurt...it's not you, it's me. We need a break from each other.

Breakfast today:

  • Pear
  • Egg
  • 2 slices of turkey bacon
  • Protein shake (Realized that these probably aren't allowed...oops?)
Lunch:
  • Half a piece of fish. (I realize that's a little vague. A piece you say? Goldfish sized or trout sized?)
  • Kale chips (I haven't finished eating these yet. So the amount has yet to be determined)
  • Carrot sticks. Maybe like...25?
  • Dressing. My carrot sticks were dry. Really dry.
Dinner:
...has yet to be determined.
I realize my current progress doesn't fit 100% into the whole30 food program...but this is probably the least/healthiest I've eaten in possibly a year.
And surprisingly...I'm not astonishingly hungry, and I feel...good.
Interesting.

The first post.

SO, I titled this blog adventure time because I couldn't decide if it should be about food, or exercise, or life...so it can be about all three! About any adventure in life that I embark on.....cheesy? :)
